Is my drone worth repairing? A price-by-price answer
The question we get more than any other. It's your decision, not ours, so here are the numbers we'd want if it were our drone. The short version: if the gimbal camera is intact, the repair is almost always a fraction of replacement.
A drone is a camera with a flying frame around it. On most consumer and prosumer models the gimbal and camera are 40 to 60 percent of the aircraft's value. Everything else, arms, motors, shells, hinges, boards, is comparatively cheap and well supported with parts.
The quick table
| Aircraft | Common crash repair | Typical total | Replacement (new) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DJI Mini 4 Pro | Arm and motor, resoldered | $189 | $759 |
| DJI Air 2S | Gimbal ribbon cable | $149 | $999 |
| DJI Mavic 3 Classic | Full gimbal assembly | $449 | $1,600 |
| DJI Mavic 3 Pro | Gimbal yaw arm and motor | $349 | $2,200 |
| DJI Phantom 4 Pro | Camera module swap | $349 | $1,500 |
| Autel EVO II Pro | Rear arm (connectorized) | $219 | $1,800 |
Three things we'll flag in the diagnostic
Not reasons to say no; just facts you'll want before deciding:
- A cracked camera module on a Mavic 3 Pro or Air 3. The triple-camera and dual-camera assemblies are expensive, so the quote shows the replacement price right beside it.
- Water damage that was powered on. A wet board that got power usually has corrosion under the chips. We can clean and treat it; the quote states the odds honestly so you can decide.
- A bound DJI account you can't release. Since mid-2025 only the original owner can unbind a DJI aircraft. A bound drone flies, but it can't be registered to you, insured by DJI Care, or resold cleanly. We check during diagnosis.
What makes a repair actually last
Calibration. A swapped gimbal that isn't joint-calibrated drifts and throws errors within a week. A replaced arm without an IMU and compass recalibration toilet-bowls in a hover. Every aircraft we repair gets a firmware refresh, IMU, vision, compass and gimbal calibration, and a recorded test flight before it ships. That's the difference between repaired and certified, and it's why we can put 90 days on the work.
